There are many factors that can cause water retention. These include early signs of heart failure, renal failure, use of medications, peripheral insufficiencies or other underlying medical condition.
Moreover, the swelling on your mum's hand may be due to other conditions apart from water retention, which is difficult to determine without a physical assessment. Other possible causes could be arthritis, infection etc.
You may wish to discuss your mum's condition with the surgeon who has scheduled her for an operation. He will be better able to advise you on her suitability for acupuncture.
In the meantime, you may wish to try the following measure to reduce the swelling in her hand by elevating your mum's hand on 2 pillows while she is sitting or sleeping. This will help to draw water back into the body's circulatory system by gravity.
In the meantime, monitor your mum's hands for :
Increased swelling
Increase in pain and warmth
Presence of numbness or tingling, pale, white, blue or cold skin over hand or fingers
Should the above signs are noticed or if she experiences any shortness of breath or chest pains, you will need to bring your mother to see a doctor immediately.
We wish your mum the best of health.
Kind Regards,

PASS THIS ON EVEN IF YOU DO NOT USE ITRecently this past week, my cousin Nicole Dishuk (age 31...newly graduated student with a doctoral degree about to start her new career as a Doctor...) was flown into a nearby hospital, because she passed out.
They found a blood clot in her neck, and immediately took her by helicopter to the ER to operate. By the time they removed the right half of her skull to relieve the pressure on her brain; the clot had spread to her brain causing severe damage.
Since last Wednesday night, she was battling... they induced her into a coma to stop the blood flow, they operated! 3 times... Finally, they said there was nothing left that they could do... they found multiple clots in the left side of her brain... the swelling wouldn't stop, and she was on life support...
She died at 4:30 yesterday. She leaves behind a husband, a 2yr old Brandon and a 4yr old Justin... The CAUSE of DEATH - they found was a birth control she was taking that allows you to only have your period 3 times a year... They said it interrupts life's menstrual cycle, and although it is FDA approved... shouldn't be - So to the women in my address book -Investigate more because you pop some pills and deal with your period once a month - so you can live the rest of the months that your life has in store for you.
*Please send this to every woman you know - you may save someone's life... Remember, you have a CYCLE for a reason!

Title: Young and pretty lady wishes to marry a rich guy.
Fantastic reply from a financial person!
A young and pretty lady posted this on a popular forum:
Title: What should I do to marry a rich guy?
I'm going to be honest of what I'm going to say here. I'm 25 this year. I'm very pretty, have style and good taste. I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above. You might say that I'm greedy, but an annual salary of $1M is considered only as middle class in New York. My requirement is not high. Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary? Are you all married? I wanted to ask: what should I do to marry rich persons like you? Among those I've dated, the richest is $250k annual income, and it seems that this is my upper limit. If someone is going to move into high cost residential area on the west of New York City Garden ( ? ) , $250k annual income is not enough.
I'm here humbly to ask a few questions:
- Where do most rich bachelors hang out? (Please list down the names and addresses of bars, restaurant, gym)
- Which age group should I target?
- Why most wives of the riches is only average-looking? I've met a few girls who doesn't have looks and are not interesting, but they are able to marry rich guys
- How do you decide who can be your wife, and who can only be your girlfriend? (my target now is to get married)
Ms. Pretty
Here's a reply from a Wall Street Financial guy:
Dear Ms. Pretty,
I have read your post with great interest. Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyze your situation as a professional investor. My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I'm not wasting time here.
From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you. The answer is very simple, so let me explain. Put the details aside, what you're trying to do is an exchange of 'beauty' and 'money': Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square. However, there's a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year, but you can't be prettier year after year. Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciating asset, and you are a depreciating asset. It's not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worried 10 years later
By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a 'trading position'. If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term - same goes with the marriage that you wanted. It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or 'leased'. Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool; we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.
Hope this reply helps.
Signed,
J.P. Morgan

Subject: Fish Story
A guy who lives at Lake Conroe (50 miles north of Houston ) saw a ball bouncing around kind of strange in the lake and went to investigate.
It turned out to be a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a basketball which became stuck in its mouth!!
The fish was totally exhausted from trying to dive, but unable to because the ball would always bring him back up to the surface.
The guy tried numerous times to get the ball out, but was unsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to deflate it and release the hungry catfish.
You probably wouldn't have believed this, if you hadn't seen the following pictures...
